History of Lincoln

In 1917, Henry Leland, the founder of the Cadillac brand, registered a new company, Lincoln, to start manufacturing aircraft power units for the United States military. However, Leland’s financial difficulties forced him to put Lincoln up for auction, and Henry Ford, one of the main players in the US automobile market, became the new owner of the brand in 1922.

It was then that the company began to produce luxury cars, and thanks to the development of powerful engines for aircraft, the question of the technical component of the models disappeared. In 1932, the Lincoln KV model was introduced, equipped with a twelve-cylinder power unit. Next, a luxury version of the Ford Zephyr model was presented, which the engineers of the Lincoln brand managed to upgrade in such a way that the overall V12 engine could fit on a short base. This model existed on sale without significant upgrades until 1948.

In addition, in 1939, Lincoln became the official supplier of automobiles to the government of the United States of America, having secured proper funding from the parent company, Ford.

In early 1970, financial difficulties forced the company to resort to the unification of the chassis with the models of the parent corporation in order to reduce production costs. From that moment, until 1998, the Lincoln brand produced only modifications of Ford cars, but after a change in leadership, the company’s engineers were able to start producing their own car. So the Lincoln Navigator full-size SUV was introduced, equipped with a 5.4-liter power unit with a capacity of 310 horsepower. However, for a long period, the Navigator model remained the only civilian car of the brand, all other models were supplied for the needs of US intelligence agencies.

After another restructuring of the production of Lincoln, the production of cars of the brand again switched to the production of luxury versions of Ford cars. However, by 2006, when the first prerequisites for the global economic crisis appeared, Lincoln was spun off into an independent division, which saved the brand from serious financial difficulties. During the period from 2008 to 2010, the status of the company changed, which now began to specialize in the production of cars for the domestic market of the United States of America.

Thus, new luxury cars were presented – the MKZ and MKX models, which seriously competed with the Japanese luxury brands Infinity and Lexus. However, even greater success was achieved in 2011, when the MKT model, built on the basis of the Ford Mondeo, saw the light.

At the beginning of 2013, she presented the concept of a new car of the ISS model. Almost a year later, in November, a full-scale world show took place. The attention of motorists was first of all attracted by a number of some design decisions in the design of the external style. So, for example, the radiator grill turned out to be made in the form of wings, similar to those that the company used in its very first cars. Unlike the previous Lincoln line, the MKS had an individual style unlike any other Ford representative, although it was built on the Ford Global C platform.

For the next few years, the company was engaged in the production of previously presented cars. Only the color scheme of cars, as well as individual little things of the “stuffing”, have undergone a change. In all other respects, the representatives of the Lincoln family are examples of classic immutability.
