History of Rolls-Royce

The British brand “Rolls-Royce” is associated by many with expensive and luxury cars, which are the standard of excellence in their class.

In 2004, the Rolls-Royce company celebrated its centennial anniversary, because the production of prestigious cars began back in 1904, when the first model left the factory territory. This car still exists and is in excellent condition. The firm was founded by Charles Stuart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce.

Until about 1925, the company specialized in the development and sale of sports and racing cars, which repeatedly became winners of various rallies. Of these, it is worth noting the Silver Ghost with a seven-liter six-cylinder engine, which was distinguished by silent operation. For those times, it was a breakthrough in the concept of comfort. The car even received the title of “best in the world” and its sales were consistently high, despite the rather high price.

During the First World War, the company survived by producing aircraft engines. And in the postwar period, Rolls-Royce again took up the development of cars.

After 1925, Rolls-Royce released the Phantom luxury series from the assembly line, which included 3 modifications, which were distinguished by a high power potential of the motor and luxury interior. Unlike the first modification of the Phantom, two of its descendants had an original and very elegant exterior. The fourth and fifth generations of this series were developed after the 2nd World War and were sold exclusively to aristocrats who were part of the British royal court.

In the post-war 40s, Rolls-Royce resumed production and sales of the Silver series, significantly modifying the interior and exterior. In total, 6 models were developed in this line, and Silver Cloud was produced in three generations, united by the presence of a powerful power unit and original metal body shapes. Silver Shadow was an attempt to create a budget mass car. Its release was discontinued in 1980 due to the nationalization of the company.

Since the 80s, after the official bankruptcy, the company began a period of transitions from hand to hand. However, the constant resale of the brand does not stop the developers and, already as a division of BMW, Rolls-Royce released several more cars from the Silver and Fantom series.

In 2009, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was introduced, which was named after the Silver Ghost model released in 1906. The car received the most powerful engine ever installed on cars of this brand – 563 horsepower. And in 2013 Ghost was released with an updated design.
